Hello!
I'm Amy, I live in North Yorkshire and I love to sew! I have done since I was young and have spent more hours than I can count sat behind my sewing machine or with a needle and thread in my hand.
I love to be creative and see the fruits of my labour at the end of each day, so when I got the opportunity to go part time in my day job in 2020, I started Dress By Amy by selling handmade children's clothes at artisan markets in and around my local area.
Although I loved the market experience, I realised that what makes me most happy is making clothes for myself; developing my dressmaking skills and sharing the knowledge that I have built up over the years to help others who are learning to sew and make their own clothes.
This website started as just a blog to record the garments I make, the patterns I use and the dressmaking inspiration that I discover, with some sewing tutorials mixed in. Now, it is a hub for all of the elements which make up the Dress By Amy brand - from in person sewing lessons and events, to online shopping on Etsy and The British Craft House, to bespoke sewing and dressmaking services.
Having spent 25 years in the corporate world, I am now lucky enough to call sewing and dressmaking my business and am looking forward to where it takes me.
