Beginner Dressmaking In Four Weeks
You have a basic understanding of how to sew and use a sewing machine and you would now like to progress your skills and learn how to make clothes.
This workshop is for you!
Takes place at the White Rose Sewing & Craft Centre on Commercial Street in Harrogate.

Workshop outline:
To equip participants with the skills and confidence to read, understand, and follow a commercial dressmaking pattern. Using the Luella skirt pattern from Tilly & The Buttons, learners will create a beautifully finished skirt for themselves or someone else. By the end of the course, participants will have a solid introduction to dressmaking techniques and the ability to approach future garment projects with greater independence.
WEEK 1: How to read a dressmaking pattern envelope and preparing to make the skirt · Back of the envelope details and what they mean · What’s in the pattern envelope · Design decisions · Fabric selections · Size options · Taking body measurements · Cutting out the pattern
WEEK 2: Cutting out fabric pieces and starting to sew · Cutting out fabric · Marking notches · Start construction process
WEEK 3: Skirt Construction · Sewing side seams · Adding pockets · Creating first tier · Constructing waistband
WEEK 4: Complete skirt construction and hemming · Sewing second and third tiers · Hemming
