Welcome to part five of my bias binding series! This one is all about making up your bias fabric strips into actual binding using the Simplicity Bias Tape Maker.
You'll need a flat surface to work on, your bias fabric strips and of course your machine.
Open the machine up and place it on your surface.
Place the guide bar in the guide bar holder.
Take the winding spindle and feed your fabric through the hole in the spindle and then place it under the metal clip to secure it.
Next wind the fabric strip around the spindle with the right side of the fabric facing you. It should sit neatly around the spindle and not be too lose or too tight. Now place the spindle into its holder with the fabric coming off the top and to the left.
Select the correct tip for the width of binding you are making and feed it through the tip. You might need to use a pin to help it through. Then snap the tip into place on the machine.
Take off the iron plate cover and pull the fabric strip through the tip and past the lefthand edge of the machine. The raw edges should be turned under. Put the iron plate back on.
Now plug in your machine and switch it on using the red button. Select the correct temperature for your fabric using the heat dial. The machine is ready to use when the green light comes on.
Press the run button to start the machine and watch your folded binding come out the end.
Press the run button again to stop the machine and then press the red button to turn off.
The iron plate will be very hot so wait a while before touching it!
