Welcome to part seven of my button series. This part is all about accurately marking your button and buttonhole placement using an expanding sewing gauge.
Take your project and identify where you would like your first button to sit and mark that with a pin.
Determine how many buttons you want to add either by reference to the pattern you are using or your own personal preference.
Then take your sewing gauge and place the first point on the marking you have just made.
Now expand the gauge until you have the correct number of placements and mark them all with more pins. Each one with will be an equal distance apart.
You can also use the gauge to be even more accurate by using the markings on the end to check that each buttonhole placement is the exact distance you want from the edge of your fabric.
