Habiknit in Kirkgate Market, Leeds

I had heard good things about fabric shopping in Leeds but had never actually visited....until last week that is! Armed with my list of fabric and haberdashery shops I took the train into Leeds on Friday and spent the day wondering around the city on the hunt for fabric! Here is my list of the places I found!

Habiknit - Kirkgate Market - a big stall near one of the entrances to the market selling a wide range of haberdashery - zips, thread, ribbons, trims, wool and much, much more! (A quick look online shows they also have stalls in other cities and sell online).

B&M Fabric shop in Leeds

B&M Fabrics - .B&M have two locations in Leeds - a market stall in Kirkgate market and then a really lovely modern shop at 21 - 23 New York Street. Both have a brilliant range of fabrics and haberdashery items.

John Lewis Haberdashery in Leeds

John Lewis - Perhaps an obvious one but John Lewis (Victoria Gate on Harewood Street) have a great haberdashery section. They sell sewing machines, dressmaking patterns, haberdashery, a small selection of dressmaking type fabrics, a bigger selection of curtain fabrics and lots of general crafty bits and pieces.

Fred Aldous craft shop in Leeds

Fred Aldous - At 34 Kirkgate is a crafter's paradise! Its a really large shop covering two floors and is full of any and all types of craft supplies. It caters for anyone interested in art, drawing, painting, paper crafting, beading, model making, card making, journalling, embriodery, resin crafts, knitting, sewing and more! Plus a lovely range of gifts. It doesn't sell fabric but more than makes up for that with all its other crafty goodness.

Samuel Taylor's Fabric shop in Leeds

Samuel Taylor Fabrics - at 10 Central Road is an absolute treasure trove for fabric lovers! It covers two floors with the top (ground level) floor selling an excellent range of haberdashery and then if you go downstairs you will find a massive selection of dressmaking fabrics. Every type of material I can think of was down there at really reasonable prices.

So in summary, if you are looking for new fabric shops to try, visit Leeds! I would definitely recommend it - lots of options and some real 'hidden gems'!

Have I missed any? If so, let me know in the comments!

(Just a word of warning - if you Google fabric shops in Leeds, there are quite a few which come up which are sadly no longer there or are online only. The ones that I found that fell into that category are Fabric Giant (online only), MK Fabrics, Jacks Fabrics, The Sewing Basket)
