Great British Sewing Bee 2025 - Week 4 - Korea Week

We're already on week four of the Great British Sewing Bee 2025! This week was Korea week with guest judge Eudon Choi.

It was great to be introduced to Eudon as a designer and I've since spent some time on his website looking through his look-books to appreciate his designs based on traditional Korean textiles.

The pattern challenge this week saw the ten remaining contestants create a Jeogori. A traditional Korean garment with a tie front which forms the top half of the Hanbok outfit. It was interesting to see a them work on a piece of clothing which originates in another culture and several of them commented that this was one of the most difficult pattern challenges so far.

Having looked online for Jeogori patterns, I couldn't see that many options but Etsy is somewhere that you will find some if you would like to try this type of garment yourself.

The transformation challenge saw the contestants re-imagining a Taekwondo outfit and their colourful belts. Of the three challenges, this is the one where each week I think I would struggle. An hour and a half to create something new is no time at all and when the clock counts down to the final minutes, I'm sure I would still be trying to decide what to make! So hats off to all of the contestants for being able to put the pressure aside and produce something worthy of the judges comments.

The Made to Measure challenge involved another Korean garment - the cheollik - something worn originally by military officials and now part of more mainsteam Korean dress. I love how there are so many different interpretations of the one brief - the final catwalk is one of my favourite bits of the show. I won't spoil who won this challenge but safe to say its a good one!
