Christmas Crafting!

Hi Everyone, hope you are well. Both of my sewing machines have been in for mending recently, so its been quiet on the sewing front! Instead I have been doing something festive with some of my fabric scraps and thought I would write a blog post about it in case you want to try it too. Sewing handmade children's clothes, and any dressmaking for that matter, ends up with at least some fabric left over and I hate to waste it!

These Christmas wreaths look lovely around the house and are really fun and straight forward to make. Supplies that you will need are:

*A polystyrene ring - you can get these from most art and craft shops

* Fabric scraps in whatever colour(s) you like. How much fabric you need will depend on the size of the ring you are working with. You could use old pieces of clothing that are destined for the bin, old bed sheets, buy new fabrics if you want to or there are plenty of online sellers out there, including me at www.etsy.com/uk/shop/dbasnippets , who offer fabric scrap packs which would be ideal.

*A blunt pencil

* A pair of scissors

* Fabric / craft glue (optional)

Steps to follow:

1) First prepare the fabric; I cut my fabrics into long strips approximately 1 - 1.5 inches long and then cut each of the strips into squares. You can cut through several strips at once depending on the thickness of the fabric - they don't need to be precise.

2) If you decide to use glue (I didn't with mine but you can do to make the fabric more secure), lay a bunch of squares out in front of you with the underside of the fabric facing up and dab a small amount of glue in the centre.

3) Then take your first square and place it anywhere on your polystyrene ring with the glue side against the polystyrene and push your pencil into the middle of the square so it pierces the polystyrene and pushes the centre of the fabric down into the ring. The fabric should now be secured in the ring with the edges creating a lovely ruffled effect on top.

4) Repeat this until you have covered the entire ring and there is no polystyrene showing.

And that's it! There you have it....a lovely Christmas (or any other occasion) wreath that could be hung on the door, used as a table decoration, put on the Christmas tree or even given to someone as a gift.

If you want to make your wreath extra special you could glue some sequins or beads onto some of the ruffles to make it sparkle!

Happy Crafting!
