Christmas Sewing in Harrogate: Make Your Own Handmade Christmas Stocking

There’s something rather special about handmade Christmas decorations. They have a story behind them, they can be made to suit your own style and, unlike something picked up from a shop, they can become part of your Christmas traditions for years to come.

This December, I’m inviting you to join me, Amy from Dress By Amy, for a relaxed and festive

Christmas sewing workshop in Harrogate, where you’ll learn how to make your very own fabric Christmas stocking.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or already enjoy sewing, it’s a lovely opportunity to spend a few creative hours away from the Christmas shopping and busy festive preparations.

A Christmas craft workshop in Harrogate with a difference

Christmas is such a lovely time of year for getting creative. There’s something about choosing fabrics, sitting down at a sewing machine and making something with your own hands that feels particularly rewarding.

During my three-hour Christmas stocking making workshop at The Sewing Sanctuary in Harrogate, I’ll guide you through the process step by step, from cutting out your stocking to sewing the different sections together and adding the finishing touches.

And you don’t need to worry about bringing a sewing machine or a box full of sewing equipment with you.

All sewing machines, equipment, materials and tuition are included.

There will also be festive refreshments to enjoy during the morning, making it a relaxed and sociable way to get into the Christmas spirit.

Never used a sewing machine before? Don't worry!

One of the things I love most about teaching sewing is helping people who think they aren't "sewing people" discover that they actually can make things themselves.

You don't need previous sewing experience to join this workshop.

I'll demonstrate each stage and guide you through the process, with plenty of help and encouragement along the way. The aim isn't perfection – it's about learning something new, enjoying the process and going home with something you've made yourself.

If you already have some sewing experience, you're very welcome too. You can simply enjoy a few hours of festive sewing in a friendly and relaxed environment.

What will you make?

The star of the workshop is, of course, your handmade Christmas stocking!

You'll learn how to:

• Use a pattern to cut out your stocking

• Work with Christmas-themed fabrics and materials

• Use a sewing machine to construct your stocking

• Sew the different sections together neatly

• Add a hanging loop

• Finish your stocking ready for Christmas

  
  

By the end of the morning, you'll have your own handmade stocking ready to hang up for Christmas.

You could make one for yourself, a child, a partner, a family member – or even create a special handmade Christmas gift.

And there's something very satisfying about being able to look at a decoration hanging up at Christmas and say, "I made that."

A lovely Christmas activity to enjoy with a friend

If you're looking for something a little different to do with a friend or family member in the run-up to Christmas, why not spend a morning being creative together?

Rather than another Christmas shopping trip or a festive coffee, a sewing workshop gives you the chance to learn a practical new skill while making something you can actually take home and use.

Christmas sewing workshops in Harrogate

The workshops take place at The Sewing Sanctuary in Harrogate (8 Princes Street) on three dates in December 2026. Pick whichever date suits you best.

• Friday 4th December – 10am to 1pm

• Saturday 5th December – 10am to 1pm

• Sunday 13th December – 10am to 1pm

The cost is £65 per person, including your materials, sewing machine, equipment, tuition and festive refreshments.

Places are limited so that I can provide plenty of individual help, so early booking is recommended.
