Designed especially for young makers, this hands-on session introduces essential sewing skills in a friendly, supportive environment. Whether your child is completely new to sewing or has already experimented with a sewing machine at home, this workshop offers the right balance of guidance, creativity, and independence.

During the workshop, students will:
Learn how to use a sewing machine safely and confidently
Understand basic sewing techniques and terminology
Follow a pyjama shorts pattern and construct and sew a finished pair of shorts
Develop problem-solving and creative skills
Gain pride in completing their own handmade project
Each participant will leave not only with something they’ve made themselves, but with skills they can continue building on at home.

The session is led by me, Amy of Dress By Amy, I'm passionate about helping young people (and people of any age) discover the joy of making. Clear demonstrations and step-by-step guidance ensure students feel safe and capable throughout.
📍 Location, Dates / Times, Cost and Booking
The workshop takes place at The Sewing Sanctuary in central Harrogate, providing a creative and welcoming setting for young makers.
It will run across four Mondays - 23rd and 30th March and 13th and 20th April. 16:00 until 17:45.
Cost: £100 for the full course.
Spaces are limited to five to keep the group size manageable and ensure individual support, so early booking is recommended.
