How To Sew A Flat Fell Seam

A short and sweet tutorial on how to sew a flat fell seam!

Follow along with the video or the step by step instructions below to sew perfect flat fell seams for denim jackets and lots of other dressmaking projects.

1. Stitch your seam as normal  - in this video I’m using a 5/8ths seam allowance.

   
   

2. Press the seam allowances to one side.

   
   

3. Trim the seam layer which is underneath to a quarter of an inch.

   
   

4. Wrap the seam which is on top around the one underneath and press.

   
   

5. Stitch about a millimeter or so from turned edge.

   
   

6. Turn over to the right side and stitch the same distance away from the seam line.

And there’s your flat fell seam!
